2011 San Diego Comic-Con Highlights- Saturday, July 23, 2011

Posted August 1, 2011 by @Angelized_1st in 2011 San Diego Comic Con, Entertainment / 0 Comments

Unfortunately, I have no post for Friday, because the line for Ballroom 20 was absolutely ridiculous! Instead, I just hung out at the convention center with friends, and went out to lunch. The only thing that happened that day was brushing against Justin Timberlake as he was leaving the restaurant. This incident would’ve been more epic if I had actually noticed him. But let’s not talk about that. Instead, I’ll run down all the events I was able to get into on Saturday.

‘Chuck’

The first panel of the day was for NBC’s ‘Chuck‘. Sadly, this coming season will be ‘Chuck’s’ last 🙁 The cast reminisced about their favorite SDCC moments, and what the fan support means to them. One thing I loved most about this panel, was that just about all the actors were asked questions during the Q&A, and not just Zachary Levi. Just shows how much the entire cast is loved.

Maybe because this is the show’s last season, but they were very forthcoming with the answers, but not to the point of spoiling the upcoming season. The new teaser for season 5 was played to kick things off. Afterwards, the Q&A began. One of the burning questions was how Chuck would react to losing the intersect.

Chris Fedak: “He definitely, at the beginning of the season, wants the Intersect… This is back-to-basics for Chuck… Chuck has to be far greater now.”

Chris Fedak and Zachary Levi also spoke about what it’s like to be given the chance to end the show properly:

Chris Fedak: “In network television, you don’t always get a chance to write your own ending.”

Zachary Levi:
“I think there’s a huge blessing in that we get one more crack.”

As the panel ended, Zach spoke to the fans how much they mean to him, and how touched he is that they went to bat for them, and earned them a final season. The tears welling in his eyes showed how sincere those words were, and everyone just wanted to hug him. Aww… In the end, the cast received a standing ovation as the walked off stage for probably the final time.

‘Terra Nova’

The next panel of the day was for Fox’s new show, ‘Terra Nova‘. The show stars Jason O’Mara (‘Life on Mars’), and Stephen Lang (“Avatar”). As stated on IMDB:

Terra Nova centers on the Shannons, an ordinary family from 2149 when the planet is dying who are transported back 85 million years to prehistoric Earth where they join Terra Nova, a colony of humans with a second chance to build a civilization.

The panel for this show was pretty short due to the fact that the producers had premiered the first hour of the two hour pilot. Personally, I loved the pilot. Then again, I am a fan of dinosaurs, especially of dinosaurs eating people. If I were to describe ‘Terra Nova’, I would say that it’s a futuristic version of “Jurassic Park”. How can that be bad? The special effects were awesome, the dinos looked fantastic, and the story still managed to be original. Go figure! The only downside: the big budget will probably result in cancellation. Maybe I’m jaded, but I can’t help but think of another expensive Fox show, ‘Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles’, which also suffered this fate. Should you invest in something that probably won’t see a second season? You decide.

After Terra Nova, Ballroom 20 was a host to 4 ever popular animated shows: Futurama, The Simpsons, Family Guy, and American Dad. They were all entertaining, but the Family Guy crew had me pissing in my pants with laughter.

‘Family Guy’

This cast is freakin’ hilarious! The highlights of the Q&A, were when Seth Green and Alex Borstein noticed the sign language interpreter interpreting the lewd cast remarks. Now, thanks to them, I know how to sign penis, shit, and bullshit. Thanks guys! Check out Fox’s highlight video below.

Also shown, was the customary trailer for the new season.

‘The Vampire Diaries’

One of the most anticipated panels of the day was for ‘The Vampire Diaries‘. Candice Accola, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, and Joseph Morgan were all in attendance, as were EPs Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec. Unfortunately, Williamson had lost his voice, so it was left up to Paul Wesley, and Ian Somerhalder to provide the comic relief. Joseph Morgan looked sweet, but overwhelmed. I don’t think anyone prepared him for the enormity of Comic-Con. Candice looked like a sweetheart, and is more beautiful in person. Nina looked very engaged, despite looking exhausted.

Besides joking, and teasing season 3, the thing that had everyone talking was the Sizzle Reel shown at the start of the panel. Most of the trailer were scenes from the past seasons, but the final scene taking right from the first episode of season 3 was jaw dropping. DE fans were all crazed over Elena seeing a naked Damon, and everyone else was wondering why? What was going on? Why was Damon naked? Why was Elena there to see him naked? Many see this as impending doom for SE, while many believe it’s the beginning of Delena. Only time will tell. Unfortunately, not much was learned from the tight lipped crew, and the stupid questions the “fans” asked didn’t gain us any new information. Over all, this panel wasn’t as painful as the ‘Dexter’ panel, so that’s a plus!

‘Secret Circle’

I don’t have any photos from this panel, because like Fox, Warner Bros. used the time to premiere the pilot. I only have one word for the pilot, LOVE! It was great, and having read the books, it stayed true as it could. There were some changes which I will not mention, but later they were explained. I did manage to capture one photo though:

What they said, I don’t know as I was heading out to the press room 🙂 In there I got to interview EP Kevin Williamson, Richard Hatem (pre-exit), and Andrew Miller as well as the cast. Being a T:TSCC fan, I was the most excited to interview Thomas Dekker.

The second interview I was most excited for was Kevin Williamson. You could tell his love for ‘The Vampire Diaries’ hasn’t waned with the birth of his new baby. Despite having lost his voice, he did his best to answer questions, and told us that We’ll be seeing a different side of Paul (Stefan) come season 3. YAY!
