There are no words to express how I feel right now. Just when the one thing I’ve waited for happened, the rug got pulled from beneath my feet.
For four books I have read as the characters in Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy series have forged friendships, fallen in love, and prepare for battle. Just when I thought things may work out the way I had hoped, Mead dashed them on the rocks.
What I love about this series is how differently the books are from many other YA novels. Yes, the majority of the books take place in school. Yes, there is teen angst, and romance. What makes this series different from the rest is that the characters act like you and me. Granted the books are about vampires, magic, and other supernatural things, but the realism of Meade’s characters is what allows you to get wrapped up in the storyline, and invested in who lives or dies.
SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT!!
The next book in the Vampire Academy series is Blood Promise. The synopsis states:
The recent Strigoi attack at St. Vladimir’s Academy was the deadliest ever in the school’s history, claiming the lives of Moroi students, teachers, and guardians alike. Even worse, the Strigoi took some of their victims with them . . . including Dimitri. He’d rather die than be one of them, and now Rose must abandon her best friend, Lissa—the one she has sworn to protect no matter what—and keep the promise Dimitri begged her to make long ago. But with everything at stake, how can she possibly destroy the person she loves most?
I can’t wait to read the 5th book, and find out whether Rose is able to kill the love of her life. Now that the main love story has turned tragic, I am curious to find out where the series will go from here. Will it be possible for Rose and Dimitri’s love to survive, or will she turn to the other man in her life whose waiting in the wings? Tune in next week to find out what I think of Blood Promise. VA fans, what did you think about Shadow Kiss?
