2012 San Diego Comic-Con Wrap-Up (Part 1): Galacticans, Comedians, and a Cult

Just this time last week I was down in San Diego, CA for Comic-Con. It was a fun, busy week that often had me scurrying like a rat from place to place. Lack of sleep, forgetting to eat were par for the course, but I saw some cool things, met some interesting people, and hooked up with friends. All-in-all it wasn’t the successful trip I hoped for, but it did have some major highlights.

Thursday

The day started off with registering for the con. After I picked up my convention materials (and ate breakfast) I headed over to room 6BCF at the convention center for the Battlestar Galactica panel. Writer/producer Jane Espenson, and Richard Hatch (Tom Zarek) attended the panel, and answered fan questions. After that ended, I had a couple of hours to get my bearings before I interviewed Scott Auckerman about his show Comedy Bang Bang on IFC.

Scott seemed very cool, and laid back. A great way to kick off the weekend. When I finished, I headed over to the Archer panel which was freakin’ hilarious! Not only did we get a teaser (which showed nothing) for the new season, but the panel was one of the funniest I’ve ever seen. Since I followed FX’s Wilfred, that’s saying a lot.

Friday

I began the day in the Cult press room. Cult is a new show premiering mid-season on the CW Network. It stars Matt Davis (The Vampire Diaries), Robert Knepper (Prison Break), Jessica Lucas (Cloverfeld), and Alona Tal (Supernatural).

After I left the press room, I had wanted to attend the Firefly panel, but since I didn’t camp out over night it was impossible for me to get in. Instead, I went to the panel for Cult. Afterwards, I went to Nobu at the Hard Rock Hotel for SyFy’s Haven press. Emily Rose (“Audrey Parker”), Lucas Bryant (“Nathan Wuornos”), and Eric Balflor (“Duke Crocker”) were in attendance this year, and it was a pleasure to meet and talk with them.

My first 2 days were pretty hectic even though it seems like I didn’t do much. I thought that this would be the norm for the weekend, and boy was I wrong. Stay tuned for what happened on Friday and Saturday. Teaser: Walkers, vampires, and a visit to Camelot.
