The Greater Good : The Walking Dead Episode (3×15) Review – “This Sorrowful Life”

When there’s only two episode left of The Walking Dead you know things are about to get rough. So when Daryl lost his brother tonight it shouldn’t have been a shock. But it was. Rick has been mulling over the Governor’s treaty terms for the past two days, and now it’s time to give an answer. Though conflicted, Rick wants to do whatever he can to protect his people. Even offering up one of their newest members. When Rick told Hershel the terms, the man left it up to Rick to make the decision as their leader. Now that Rick’s time has run out he decides to seek more council. First from Daryl, and then from Merle.

The Walking Dead 3x15 - This Sorrowful LifeCold Hearted Snake… In a surprising turn of events, Daryl is willing to go along with Rick’s plan to hand Michonne over to the Governor and wants to bring his brother aboard. Merle, however, isn’t a huge supporter of the plan. Merle points out that in all likelihood the Governor won’t kill Michonne, but will torture her. Merle even called back to a previous conversation the two men had on the rooftop in Atlanta back in season one when he said, “You’re as cold as ice, Officer Friendly.” His reaction seemed so out of character that it never occurred to me that Merle was only playing Rick. No matter how cold Merle thinks Rick has become, he still doesn’t think Rick is cold enough to actually go through with handing Michonne over, and decides to take it upon himself to get the job done.
