Tonight’s episode of Game of Thrones has shown that one must be careful of the bridges they burn, and the seeds they sow. For our pasts have a way of coming back to bite us in the arse. The episode’s title, “And Now His Watch Has Ended,” is a common phrase said at the end of the funeral rites for a member of the Night’s Watch. Though many of the people who met their end this week weren’t members of this esteemed order, it’s still a fitting prayer for all of the deceased.
“Do that again, and I’ll take your other hand.” Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth are still being led to Roose Bolton at Harrenhal. Their captives haven’t been sated by cutting off the Kingslayer’s sword hand, and persist in tormenting him during their journey. I don’t think I’ve ever felt more sorry for Jaime than in this episode. Even more so than last week when he actually lost his hand. All of his whole life Jaime has been known for his abilities with a sword. Now that he’s lost that he feel like he’s lost himself. Nothing is sadder than watching a man wearing his severed hand around his neck trying to fight his enemies with his left hand. (More…)
