“Nice town you picked, Norma.”
A&E has decided to get into the horror game with the new mid-season series Bates Motel. The series is a prequel to the film Psycho based off the novel of the same name by author Robert Bloch. While the Alfred Hitchock film told the story of an adult Norman Bates, played by Anthony Perkins, the television series takes place before the events of the film when Norman and his mother Norma first bought the motel.
The series, produced by Universal Television, stars Freddie Highmore (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory), Vera Farmiga (The Departed), and Nestor Carbonell (The Dark Knight Trilogy), and is run by executive producers Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Kerry Ehrin (Friday Night Lights). Though the series doesn’t move at what I’d consider a break-neck pace, there are enough intriguing mysteries to keep viewers invested. (More…)
