‘Orange Is The New Black’ Gives Viewers A Fun Look At Life In Prison

Netfilx’s latest foray into original programming, Orange Is The New Black, offers a witty, engaging look at women serving time in federal prison. This new series from the creator of Showtime’s Weeds, Jenji Kohan, stars Taylor Shilling (Argo), Jason Biggs (American Pie), Kate Mulgrew (Star Trek: Voyager), and Laura Prepon (That 70’s Show). This new series, based on Piper Kerman’s memoir of the same name, is about a woman (Piper Chapman) who’s sent to prison for a crime she committed ten years before. Once inside serving her 15 month sentence, Chapman is forced to face the consequences of her actions in her brief stint as a drug trafficker. If you’re looking for something to watch this weekend, this is it!

Orange Is The New Black CastStellar Cast

This new series is composed of a stellar cast. Aside from series star Shilling, who is phenomenal as the inconvenienced Piper Chapman, Kate Mulgrew portrays Galina “Red” Reznikov, the Russian kitchen supervisor. That 70’s Show’s Laura Prepon trades her trademark red hair for black, and plays Chapman’s ex-lover, Alex, who pulled Chapman into the drug trafficking business when both women were in their 20’s. The biggest surprise out of the cast was Jason Biggs. Best known for his stint in the American Pie films, Biggs plays Larry, Chapman’s fiance, who is forced to deal with her imprisonment.
