Sleepy Hollow’s Tom Mison Brings Humor and Mystery To Classic Literary Character

Fans of the classic short story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow finally got a chance to see the new FOX series that modernized the classic tale. Sleepy Hollow takes place in the modern-day titular town, but a slew of strange happenings force Ichabod Crane to be resurrected from the dead. The creature that killed Crane, the Headless Horseman, has risen alongside him and embarks to continue the task set before him 250 years earlier during the Revolutionary War – Bring about the apocalypse. In the past this story has been told before on film, and generally Ichabod is depicted as a bumbling fool like in the Washington Irving story. This new series is different. Instead of the hapless school teacher, Ichabod 2013 is a soldier. Tom Mison has created a strong male lead character, but also has kept a bit of the original bumbling that made the character a classic. A show that involves time traveling can come across hokey when the characters grapple with their new surroundings, but the way Mison played these instances for humor in a realistic way is why he’s this week’s Most Valuable Actor.
