Why I’m Waiting

I’ve only read the first book in this series, The Raven Boys, but it peaked my interest enough that I want to read the other books. Now that I’ve about reached and/or surpassed many of my reading challenges for this year, I plan to finish book series I’ve started or downloaded to my iPad. This series happens to be one of them. The way The Raven Boys ended has left me wondering how Stiefvater plans to end this series as it’s a bit unpredictable than others I’ve read. Yet, I have a love/hate relationship with her writing. I love her characters and plot ideas, but am not always a fan of how she ends her books. However, I will finish this series, and the only question that remains is whether or not I’ll space books 2 & 3 out so I don’t have to wait long for book 4 or devour them?

About Maggie Stiefvater

New York Times bestselling author of The Shiver Trilogy, The Raven Cycle, and The Scorpio Races. Artist. Driver of things with wheels. Avid reader.

All of Maggie Stiefvater’s life decisions have been based around her inability to be gainfully employed. Talking to yourself, staring into space, and coming to work in your pajamas are frowned upon when you’re a waitress, calligraphy instructor, or technical editor (all of which she’s tried), but are highly prized traits in novelists and artists. She’s made her living as one or the other since she was 22. She now lives an eccentric life in the middle of nowhere, Virginia with her charmingly straight-laced husband, two kids, two neurotic dogs, and a 1973 Camaro named Loki.

  1. I adore The Raven Boys and Maggie Stiefvater in general. She can draw. She can write. She can play two or three different instruments. She’s unfairly talented, she is. And yes, the series is a bit unpredictable, but I think that’s why I like it so much. I was getting tired of being able to tell how the book ended before I even got midway through.

    Great post!

Thanks! I’m glad you liked it. I think her unpredictability is why I keep reading her books. That, and she can really write. Even though I may not always like the way a book ends, I do enjoy the journey, and guessing what’s going to happen makes it even more fun. Have a great week!
