Secrets are exposed, trust is betrayed and two people face the beauty of lies.

Leo Jensen has a secret--he is Mr. Expose, a blogger that reveals the truth about liars and frauds. It's a way to make a living, and he's had a motherlode of experience with liars. Cheaters. Women who live for drama and carry more hidden baggage than a Boeing 747. Even his twin sister can't seem to admit the truth about her relationships, so finding an honest woman is about as likely as finding a unicorn in the middle of Nashville.

Harper Wade wishes life had a do-over button. She'd press that sucker and reset the last four years. Now, she has the chance to start fresh and make things right, but first she has to retrieve the damning evidence of her past from an annoying blogger. She's doing all the things she knows she shouldn't--breaking and entering, lying by omission, falling for the hot guy next door. Too bad he holds the key to her clean slate.

Brinda Berry’s The Beauty of Lies has made me think in ways I never expected it to. Like many romances, two people are brought together under unlikely circumstances, and manage to find love. Harper Wade is a young woman with a secret. Desperate to get her feelings out, Harper wrote a postcard to Mr. Expose, a blogger who reveals the truth about liars and frauds. However, afterwards Harper realized her actions would have repercussions for someone she’d never want to hurt. Desperate to take back her postcard, Harper reaches out to the anonymous blogger in the hope that she can set things right. Yet things don’t turn out the way she planned.

When Harper and Leo, Mr. Expose, end up getting to know each other, I thought they made a cute couple. Yet, the way they met made the whole deal seem kind of icky. The funny thing is, this isn’t the first romance I’ve read where one of the parties is using the other for their own ends. I think what was a bit off-putting was how they each hold secrets that each of them are hiding from each other. But the more I thought about it, I realized that they are very compatible. Both of them are bookworms, and they seem to have a lot in common. Plus, despite Harper’s breaking and entering, she seemed like a nice girl who’s a bit unstable due to some recent events.

Aside from Harper and Leo, the other characters were kind of interesting. My favorite character in the book, though, has to be Leo’s twin sister, Josie. An owner of a bookstore, she immediately hits it off with Harper, and the two become friends. I love reading about great female friendships where they can have fun, and not argue over some dude. Josie is nice, fun, and has a sharp wit that made all of her scenes a pleasure to read.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a bit of deception in their romance. Leo and Harper are both pretty complicated characters with loads of baggage, so watching them fall for one another creates a lot of tension in the story. I’m not sure how I feel about Leo and Harper as characters, but the story was well-written, and was a bit unpredictable. Overall, I really enjoyed it.

He is pretty tasty. I can’t wait to see how this series continues. It should be interesting based on what I’ve read so far.

It really was! It really made me think about romances where the characters get together despite some immoral behavior. I guess I never thought much about that until I read this one. Thanks!

It’s getting to be that time of the year when I love to cuddle up in a blanket for the day and read a book. I would love to read this one.
