2015 Reading Challenge End-of-the-Year Update

Posted December 31, 2015 by @Angelized_1st in 2015 Flights of Fantasy Reading Challenge, 2015 Historical Fiction Reading Challenge, 2015 TBR Pile Reading Challenge, Back to the Classics Book Challenge 2015, Banned Books Challenge 2015, Reading Challenges, Tackle Your TBR Read-a-thon / 2 Comments

On January 2nd of last year I set out to participate in 6 themed challenges as well as posting an overall goal on Goodreads. In some ways I was more successful than others. I beat my Goodreads and Flights of Fantasy goal twice over, my TBR Pile and Historical Fiction goals only once, and didn’t quite succeed with my Banned Books and Back to the Classics challenges. Oh, well! Overall I’m pretty happy with what I’ve accomplished. I have a lists of what I read for each challenge, and give a rundown on how they all went in the scroll boxes below. Check them out! Many of these challenges will be returning for 2016, though I won’t be a participant. It’s time to try something new.

Happy Reading!

I can’t remember what my initial pledge for my Goodreads challenge was, but it was no where near 169 books. I believe I initially pledged 85 books, and then later extended it to 100. Never in a million years did I ever think I would get close to 200 before the year was out. I blame it on all the ARCs I got this year. Or no social life… LOL! Even though I was overly ambitious in 2015, I’m going to chuck it all up to being a big fluke, and probably will only pledge 100 books to start for 2016.

  1. Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll
  2. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
  3. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis
  4. Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson

As you can see by the big red sign flashing “Failed,” I didn’t manage to complete this challenge. I blame this on poor organization on my part. At the beginning of 2015, I sat down and wrote down all 12 categories for this challenge, assigning a book for each. I didn’t look at it, and began reading books on the list, but mistakenly linked to the wrong categories. Doh! Like a bad card game, one wrong move ruined my game plan. Also, I made the mistake of a double review, so my list is really 5 books read. Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll was linked to the challenge, but doesn’t show up here. Also, I read The Hobbit for this challenge, but accidentally linked one of the above books to the wrong category. The one I needed for The Hobbit. ‘Dem the breaks I guess. One day I will like to try this challenge again, but it won’t be 2016. Maybe 2017.

Categories Completed:

  • 19th Century Classic – Treasure Island
  • 20th Century Classic – The Catcher in the Rye
  • Classic Novella – Through the Looking Glass
  • Classic with a Name in the Title – Alice in Wonderland
  • Children’s Classic – The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe

Another failure. Whoopie! As you can see, I planned to read 14 books for this challenge, and even wrote a list. Sadly, some of those books are still glaring at me from my eReader and bookshelves….

For this challenge I pledge to be Ancient History (25 books), and I met that goal. In fact, I surpassed it by two books. I’m not really surprised, because I’ve participated in this challenge for the past 4 years, and usually choose the same level. I will miss participating in this challenge next year, as I’m going to change to the Reading England challenge, but it’s been a fun ride.

I initially pledged to read 21-30 of my TBR pile books, and easily surpassed that number. I then extended the goal to 50 books, but fell short by 2 books 🙁 Still, I’m happy with the outcome. Except the part of reading mostly books on TBR list, instead of the ones I already owned… Damn you, one-click book buying! Damn you to hell!!

I signed up for this challenge in November, and I met my goal. It was fun, and I used it to catch up on my ARCs.

So that’s it folks! That’s the rundown for my 2015 reading challenges. While I didn’t complete them all, I feel that 2015 was a successful year. I won’t be participating in most of these challenges in 2016, so check out my blog to see what I’m participating in this time around. As always, you can follow my progress by checking out the Reading Challenges section of my menu. There I will have all of my individual reviews listed for each challenge. I also will have another 2016 Reading Challenge Progress Report where you can see my progress throughout the year.
