Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Most Anticipated Releases For The First Half of 2016

Posted December 29, 2015 by @Angelized_1st in Memes, Top Ten Tuesday / 9 Comments

toptentuesdayThis week’s Top Ten Tuesday topic is “Top Ten Most Anticipated Releases For The First Half of 2016.” The books on my list are not really in any particular order, though I numbered them. Some books like Half Lost and Morning Star I’m waiting for with bated breath, while others (Winner’s Kiss) I’m anticipating as an end to a series I feel compelled to finish. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. So without further ado, here is my “Top Ten Most Anticipated Releases For The First Half of 2016.”

Number 1

The Shadowhunters of Los Angeles star in the first novel in Cassandra Clare’s newest series, The Dark Artifices, a sequel to the internationally bestselling Mortal Instruments series. Lady Midnight is a Shadowhunters novel.

It’s been five years since the events of City of Heavenly Fire that brought the Shadowhunters to the brink of oblivion. Emma Carstairs is no longer a child in mourning, but a young woman bent on discovering what killed her parents and avenging her losses.

Together with her parabatai Julian Blackthorn, Emma must learn to trust her head and her heart as she investigates a demonic plot that stretches across Los Angeles, from the Sunset Strip to the enchanted sea that pounds the beaches of Santa Monica. If only her heart didn’t lead her in treacherous directions…

Making things even more complicated, Julian’s brother Mark—who was captured by the faeries five years ago—has been returned as a bargaining chip. The faeries are desperate to find out who is murdering their kind—and they need the Shadowhunters’ help to do it. But time works differently in faerie, so Mark has barely aged and doesn’t recognize his family. Can he ever truly return to them? Will the faeries really allow it?

Glitz, glamours, and Shadowhunters abound in this heartrending opening to Cassandra Clare’s Dark Artifices series.

I’m a huge fan of Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices, so it’s not a big surprise I would be eagerly anticipating this new release.

Mare Barrow’s blood is red—the color of common folk—but her Silver ability, the power to control lightning, has turned her into a weapon that the royal court tries to control.

The crown calls her an impossibility, a fake, but as she makes her escape from Maven, the prince—the friend—who betrayed her, Mare uncovers something startling: she is not the only one of her kind.

Pursued by Maven, now a vindictive king, Mare sets out to find and recruit other Red-and-Silver fighters to join in the struggle against her oppressors.

But Mare finds herself on a deadly path, at risk of becoming exactly the kind of monster she is trying to defeat.

Will she shatter under the weight of the lives that are the cost of rebellion? Or have treachery and betrayal hardened her forever?

The Red Queen seems to be a novel people either loved or hated. I’m in the group of people who really enjoyed it, and can’t wait to see where Aveyard takes this series.

We’re here, then we’re gone, and that was true before they came. That’s always been true. The Others didn’t invent death; they just perfected it. Gave death a face to put back in our face, because they knew that was the only way to crush us. It won’t end on any continent or ocean, no mountain or plain, jungle or desert. It will end where it began, where it had been from the beginning, on the battlefield of the last beating human heart.

Master storyteller Rick Yancey invokes triumph, loss, and unrelenting action as the fate of the planet is decided in the conclusion to this epic series.

Rick Yancey’s series hooked from the very first age of The 5th Wave, and with the upcoming film about to be released, my excitement for this book has been ratcheted up several notches.

The enchantment continues. . . . The universe of the Lunar Chronicles holds stories - and secrets - that are wondrous, vicious, and romantic. How did Cinder first arrive in New Beijing? Red Rising thrilled readers and announced the presence of a talented new author. Golden Son totally changed the game and took the story of Darrow to the next level. Now comes the exhilarating conclusion to the Red Rising Trilogy: Morning Star.

Born a lowly Red in the mines of Mars, Darrow lost his beloved wife to the treacherous Gold overlords. Vowing to fight for the future that his wife believed in, Darrow joins a secret revolutionary group and is remade into a Gold so that he can infiltrate the ruling class and bring them down from the inside. Now, after years of hiding amongst the Golds, Darrow is finally ready to declare open revolution and throw off the chains of oppression. Nothing in Darrow’s world has been easily won, and this final fight will be the most harrowing of all.

Pierce Brown’s Red Rising Trilogy hooked me this past fall, and I’m so happy I don’t have to wait long to read the conclusion. I’m just sad that getting means the joyride will finally be over 🙁

A stunning, magical world. An international sensation.

Nathan Byrn is running again. The Alliance of Free Witches has been all but destroyed. Scattered and demoralized, constantly pursued by the Council’s Hunters, only a bold new strategy can save the rebels from total defeat. They need the missing half of Gabriel’s amulet—an ancient artifact with the power to render its bearer invincible in battle.

But the amulet’s guardian—the reclusive and awesomely powerful witch Ledger - has her own agenda. To win her trust, Nathan must travel to America and persuade her to give him the amulet. Combined with the Gifts he has inherited from Marcus, the amulet might just be enough to turn the tide for the Alliance and end the bloody civil war between Black and White witches once and for all…

I can’t wait to read about what became of Nathan, Gabriel, and the Rebels after that jaw dropping conclusion to Half Wild. Plus, I’m dying to discover if my OTP (Nathan and Gabriel) wind up together. Can love survive an unwindable war?

The much anticipated sequel to the breathtaking The Wrath and the Dawn, lauded by Publishers Weekly as "a potent page-turner of intrigue and romance."

I am surrounded on all sides by a desert. A guest, in a prison of sand and sun. My family is here. And I do not know whom I can trust. In a land on the brink of war, Shahrzad has been torn from the love of her husband Khalid, the Caliph of Khorasan. She once believed him a monster, but his secrets revealed a man tormented by guilt and a powerful curse—one that might keep them apart forever. Reunited with her family, who have taken refuge with enemies of Khalid, and Tariq, her childhood sweetheart, she should be happy. But Tariq now commands forces set on destroying Khalid's empire. Shahrzad is almost a prisoner caught between loyalties to people she loves. But she refuses to be a pawn and devises a plan.

While her father, Jahandar, continues to play with magical forces he doesn't yet understand, Shahrzad tries to uncover powers that may lie dormant within her. With the help of a tattered old carpet and a tempestuous but sage young man, Shahrzad will attempt to break the curse and reunite with her one true love.

I’ve had the first book ever since it was given to me this past May, and the upcoming release of the sequel is lighting a fire under me to read it. Now the question is: Do I read it now, or wait until The Rose and the Dagger’s release?

Number 8

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Most Anticipated Releases For The First Half of 2016Warriors of the Storm by Bernard Cornwell
Series: Saxon Stories #9
Published by HarperCollins Publishers on January 19th 2016
Genres: Historical Fiction, War, British History
Pages: 320
ISBN: 9780007504077
Buy on: AmazonBarnes & NobleiBooks
Goodreads

The new novel in Bernard Cornwell s number one bestselling series on the making of England and the fate of his great hero, Uhtred of Bebbanburg.
BBC2 s major Autumn 2015 TV show THE LAST KINGDOM is based on the first two books in the series.

A fragile peace is about to be broken.

King Alfred's son Edward and formidable daughter, AEthelflaed, rule Wessex, Mercia and East Anglia. But all around the restless Northmen, eyeing the rich lands and wealthy churches, are mounting raids.

Uhtred of Bebbanburg, the kingdoms greatest warrior, controls northern Mercia from the strongly fortified city of Chester. But forces are rising up against him. Northmen allied to the Irish, led by the fierce warrior Ragnall Ivarson, are soon joined by the Northumbrians, and their strength could prove overwhelming. Despite the gathering threat, both Edward and AEthelflaed are reluctant to move out of the safety of their fortifications. But with Uhtred s own daughter married to Ivarson s brother, who can be trusted?
In the struggle between family and loyalty, between personal ambition and political commitment, there will be no easy path. But a man with a warrior s courage may be able to find it. Such a man is Uhtred, and this may be his finest hour."

Earlier this year I devoured Bernard Cornwell’s thrilling series about a man fighting to reclaim his birthright at the beginning of the formation of what we now call England. Sadly, I assumed the series was complete when I began reading it, and didn’t realize my mistake until the very end of the 8th book 🙁 Now, I’m stuck anticipating the next installment of one more series.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Most Anticipated Releases For The First Half of 2016The Winner's Kiss by Marie Rutkoski
Series: The Winner's Trilogy #3

Genres: Young Adult, Fantasy & Magic, Love & Romance
Pages: 496
ISBN: 9780374384739

War has begun. Arin is in the thick of it with untrustworthy new allies and the empire as his enemy. Though he has convinced himself that he no longer loves Kestrel, Arin hasn’t forgotten her, or how she became exactly the kind of person he has always despised. She cared more for the empire than she did for the lives of innocent people—and certainly more than she did for him.

At least, that’s what he thinks.

In the frozen north, Kestrel is a prisoner in a brutal work camp. As she searches desperately for a way to escape, she wishes Arin could know what she sacrificed for him. She wishes she could make the empire pay for what they’ve done to her.

But no one gets what they want just by wishing.

As the war intensifies, both Kestrel and Arin discover that the world is changing. The East is pitted against the West, and they are caught in between. With so much to lose, can anybody really win?

I initially bought Winner’s Crime because of the beautiful cover, and soon was hooked into the story despite not really liking many of the elements of the plot. However many problems I have with it, I still want to know how it all ends. Call me a glutton for punishment.

Number 10

OK, so I’ve only read the first book in this series so far, but I have every intention with continuing it. It’s just that life, and other good books got in the way. Now that the next book in the series is about to be released, I feel I can continue. Plus, since it’s the final book I won’t have to wait for the release of another book in the series. Phew!

  1. I’m so behind on trends, I’m just now planning on reading Red Queen #1. Plus side of being behind is not realizing how painful the wait must be for the second one to be released. Hope they are here before you know it!

  2. Glass Sword looks good (and love that cover), and I’m kinda excited about the 5th Wave movie. I haven’t read the book but the trailer looks good!

    • @Angelized_1st

I loved The 5th Wave! I think I need to read the second one again before the final book is released, because I think I missed something important. You’re right. The film looks so good! I’m usually a bit leery about adaptations, but this one looks spot on. The Glass Sword cover looks so amazing! I liked The Red Queen, but it had its flaws. I hope Glass Sword corrects them.

  3. Oh gosh, I hadn’t seen The Fifth Wave video before but that’s just made me even more excited for the film. All of your choices are ones that I’m really excited about – I could have chosen thirty or forty books this week!

    • @Angelized_1st

Right?!? I’m so excited! I had others on my list, but deleted them because they were for the second half of 2016. I’ll save them for when we have that topic 🙂
