"Then it is settled," Felix declared. "Come hell or high water, when this is all over, at least one of us here will not make it out alive."
When Bronwen Snow is pulled from her cottage in the middle of the night, she finds herself seeking the help of three mysterious boys who reside in an abandoned castle deep in the hillside. With only a hasty handwritten note and a vague sense of dread to guide her, Bronwen is forced to put her trust in the eccentric and willful Felix Cavara and his eternal curse - immortality.
Evanescent was a pretty cute book that centers around Bronwen Snow, who is pulled from her cottage in the middle of the night and thrust into a supernatural mystery. Bronwen seeks the help of three mysterious boys whom her grandmother insists can help Bronwen with her problem. Though Bronwen can’t fathom how three boys can help her, she decides to trust in her grandmother’s advice. Evanescent is a supernatural story, and a cute paranormal romance.
One of the aspects I enjoyed the most was how likable the characters were. Bronwen was a damsel in distress, but she had other talents that kept her from being completely useless. The boys were funny, and lightened the mood of a story that may have been otherwise dark and suspenseful. Felix, Bronwen’s love interest, was the perfect bad boy. Snarky, brave, and protective. I loved his and Bronwen’s snarky banter. You knew they were perfect for each other immediately, and I enjoyed the development of their relationship.
As I’ve stated above, the story was made light by witty and snarky banter amongst the characters. While I enjoyed the dialogue, I think it made the story too cute, and I never really felt as if any of the characters were in danger. While I wish the tone could have been darker and more suspenseful, I still enjoyed the book. I would recommend this book to lovers of paranormal romance looking for a light, easy read.
