An unlikely assignment throws recent graduate Ella Wade directly into the frenzy of a deadly scandal and the burn-your-fingers-hot male model at its heart, Jaxson Cole.
*This collection includes all three books in the romantic suspense series SCANDAL and it is the complete story of Ella Wade and Jaxson Cole.*
Ella Wade knew working at a website called The Daily Scandal might lead to an interesting summer job after graduating college. She did not know that one big mistake would pull her into the heart of a sleazy world of publicity where truths are worse than lies and a murderer is on the loose.
When Ella gives into temptation and sleeps with her stepsister Madison's ex, her world flips upside down. It doesn't matter that Madison is dead or that Jaxson Cole wasn't, in fact, her boyfriend but a publicist's stunt to link two of the hottest catwalk models romantically in order to feed tabloid curiosity. The damage is done and with deadly consequences.
Even worse, Jax definitely knows things he won't say. Falling for
his epic hotness could mean one good screw will screw Ella for a lifetime.
I reviewed part one of this book last October, and gave it three stars for it’s fun and twisty mystery. However, I didn’t like the last two parts as much as the first. For one, the story became very predictable, and had me giving side-eye to my Kindle. Ella seemed like a sweet, if naive, reporter in part one, and then she began to seem like a sex crazed fool. I get that Jax is hung, and makes your toes curl, but aside from that he’s not what he seems. Nothing in the story led me to believe that he was Ella’s OTP. In fact, I’m not sure I even liked him as I learned more about him.
When we left off, Ella was wondering if Jaxson killed her step-sister Madison, as he was the prime suspect in her murder. Due to her relationship with the victim, her editor and the LAPD detective in charge thought it would be a good idea to let Ella interview people. Why Ella would be a good candidate for this job considering her sister was just murder doesn’t make sense, but instead of questioning any of this, Ella goes along with it. Jax is a hot model rumored to be Madison’s ex, and his hot factor makes Ella forget he could be a murderer. I didn’t mind all of this, because I thought the story was light and fun. This went out the window when the identity of the murder was revealed too early.
Instead of a suspenseful story of Ella possibly falling for her sister’s murderer, we end up with another story veering the plot in a different direction, and left me feeling empty. I’m not a fan of people making unnecessary extensions to finished stories, so once I discovered Madison’s murderer, I wasn’t really interested in the rest of the story. Plus, Jax and Ella’s relationship felt icky for the rest of the story once Ella discovered the truth about him. I was interested in finishing this series, but I felt let down. If you’re interested in a light story with steamy scenes, then this would be right up your alley. Otherwise, don’t waste your time.
