The Week in Review

I decided that I would do a weekly recap, and link up with The Sunday Post, which is a weekly meme hosted by Kimba @ hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer, that was inspired in part by In My Mailbox. It’s a post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

This past week was pretty low-key. As the last weeks of the school year come to a close, I’ve been busy getting my students ready for their states tests, as well as all of their 5th grade end-of-the-year activities. The bright side: most of my students are maturing, so their behavior isn’t one of my stresses any more. Having said that, by the time I get home I’m exhausted, so I didn’t do much visiting as I wanted to this week to other blogs. I started out doing pretty well, but as the week progressed, I was just too worn out.

Saturday I participated in Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-a-thonIt was my first read-a-thin, and I had a blast! Sadly, I passed out after 20.5 hours 🙁 So my goal next time is to make it the full 24 hours. However, I managed to read four books: The Haunting of Blackwood House by Darcy Coates, The Space Between by Michelle L. Teichman, and two volumes of The Walking Dead that have sat on my iPad for over a year. The gang is finally out of the prison, and met Eugene. I’m hoping to catch up to the series before the next season, and still have 4 volumes on my iPad to read.

excited for… / watching…

Anyone who knows me knows my favorite book series of all-time is George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire, which HBO adapted into their series, Game of Thrones. Well, season 5 premiere’s tonight, and I can’t wait! Finally, everyone I’ve hooked on this amazing series can stop asking me when it’ll be back. While I’m always excited to watch a new season, this season is extra special, because it may cover material not in the five currently released books. The idea that fans may finally get a preview of what awaits us in the long-awaited sixth installment is bananas, and kinda scary. This will be the first time I may see something that I haven’t read, and worry that it’ll affect my opinion of Winds of Winter, whenever the hell it’s released.

Another series I can’t wait to see is season 3 of Showtime’s Penny Dreadful, which premieres next Sunday. This series is so good, and Eva Green kills every scene she’s in. While I’ve always been a fan of this series, I think the season 3 trailer has me the most excited. Based on what it shows, I think this may be the darkest, and most exciting season yet!

Say what?!? LOL! I think you are one of the few people in the world. You need to get on that. They’re both so good! Thanks for stopping by 🙂

Yeah, I was surprised I did as well as I did my first time out. I hope to take shorter breaks next time around. Every time I took one, I was gone for like an hour or more.

  1. I’m glad things are quietening down for you and how interesting to be privy to a group of children maturing – all at once but also at different times I expect. You’d see a cross-section, as opposed to the one or two a parent would see!

I sure do! Of course, my girls are more mature than the boys, but I also have some pretty mature boys. Most of them are getting serious about their work, and preparing for middle school, which is nice. Have a great week!

Thanks! I’ll try for the full 24 next time, but I think I need to alter my beverages a bit more. Maybe throw in a nap. I felt kind of bad Sunday from all the caffeine, and I drink a pot a day. That’s saying something. I’m just happy the kids are behaving so much better, because it allowed me to have a somewhat easy day at work today. LOL!

GOT is so awesome, but I’m a fan of the books. I’ve been waiting for Penny Dreadful, but I don’t think I was this excited until I saw that trailer. It looks amazing! It will be interesting to see where the story goes this season. You should definitely try a read-a-thon. It’s pretty fun, and there are lots of cool social things happening throughout the day. I’m really amazed at how well I did. I thought I would pass out early on.

  2. LOL, I stayed up for the full 24 hours during on I hosted in March and it took me DAYS to recover..LOL I need to do Dewy’s but I have another scheduled next month for ARC books so I didn’t want to kill myself. Sounds like end of the school year activities have kept you busy. Summer is almost here!! I love Penny Dreadful.

OMG, I can imagine! I was so out of it Sunday. Except for playing volleyball, I basically laid in bed all day, and watched the Game of Thrones marathon on HBO. Dewey’s was pretty fun. They really have everything set nicely. I saw your ARC read-a-thon. I’m still debating if I can do it. May is looking to be a pretty busy month for me. I’m so stoked for summer, it’s crazy! I can’t wait! Isn’t Penny Dreadful great? I love that it’s set back in the past, instead of a modern day story. The tone is so different from the other supernatural shows on television.

  3. What did you think of the GOT premiere? It was really good so I can’t wait to see what happens in this season. You did really good for the read-a-thon. I don’t think I would be able to stay up as long as you did but I’m going to try the next event. It’s good to hear your students have matured because I remember all the drama when I was that age lol. I hope your last days of school go smoothly. Have a great week!

The GOT premiere was fantastic! I can’t wait to see what else happens. I have a feeling it’s going to be bad in terms of more beloved characters getting the ax 🙁 I’m actually surprised I stayed up as long as I did. I can’t wait to try it again next time. As for my students, I think the remainder of the year will fly by. W have so many activities planned, that it’s got to go by fast. Have a great week!
