Book Review: Stefan’s Diaries – The Asylum

For my 5th book of the year I read Stefan’s Diaries Vol. 5: The Asylum. This is the latest prequel book in The Vampire Diaries series, and came out yesterday.

Unlike the original books in The Vampire Diaries series, these book are not written by LJ Smith. Another important thing to note is that these books are based on the same timeline as the television series. Unfortunately, because the books are being written before these past events of The Vampire Diaries have been shown, much of the history does not match with the show. This can be disconcerting.

The Asylum picks up where Vol 4 left off, and finds the Salvatore brothers partnered together against a common enemy, Jack the Ripper. If you can suspend (even more) belief while reading this book, and overlook any discrepancies between this series and the original (or the television show), then this book can be an entertaining way to spend a rainy afternoon. If you cannot, then you may want to bypass the entire Stefan’s Diaries series.

In other news, the book I should have gotten this week, Frostbite, has not been emailed to me so I need to pick another book for my next read. I have several unread books on my Kindle, but haven’t made any decisions yet so you’ll get a surprise for my next review.
