Cult Season 1 Seeing is Deceiving

“Being Billy” was the episode I had waited for since Cult first premiered. The episode was a tight suspense yarn that added more mystery surrounding Nate Sefton’s disappearance as it also gave some startling revelations – Nate apparently is alive and well, and an active participant in the Cult. No longer does the series use cheesy background music to signal the transitions between the real world, and that of “Cult.” Instead, both fantasy and reality are woven together into a singular thread. Now it’s up to the viewer to decipher which show they’re watching.

Being BillyAs Kelly continued her investigation against Billy Grimm, the audience got the opportunity to see how their portrayers Roger and Marti differ from their fictional counterparts. While Marti is less intense and more playful, Roger seems is beginning to take on some of Billy’s characteristics. Not sure exactly who Roger was before, but every time we see him he seems to adapt more and more of Billy’s commanding presence. Now that Roger has been seduced by ‘True Believer’ Kristi, chances are Roger will begin to become even more like Billy. Though we don’t know what Kristi’s plans Roger are as of yet, it does seem like she’s grooming him to take over Billy Grimm’s followers in the real world as well as on the show. (More…)
