The End Is Near
This week’s episode of Falling Skies was quick to remind viewers that the third season is almost at an end. In “Strange Brew,” Tom Mason was propelled into a fantasy world where he was reunited with his wife, and the alien invasion never happened. It was perfect. Then his true reality began to seep into his fantasy, causing Tom to realize he was being manipulated by Karen for information on the impending attack. Tom has always been a formidable statistician, but this week he proved the power of his mind after repeatedly resisting Karen’s mind-rape.
“Only ten more shopping days until Christmas.” Tom awoke to find himself lying next to his wife, believing the past two years were just a dream. However, one thing from his life remained. Tom had called out Anne’s name in his sleep, and his connection to her continued to weave its way into his “real” life. Tom’s life seemed so perfect, that one would think he’d see right through the fabrication, but he didn’t until Karen made one big mistake. She got too cocky, and showed her hand by inserting Anne into Tom’s dream world. Tom never knew Anne before the invasion, and it was the confusion her insertion into his life cause that allowed him to realize he was being duped. Especially when it was compounded by Weaver appearing as a homeless man, Karen as a police officer, and Pope as a professor at Tom’s university. (More…)
